I am interrupting my sparse postings with an issue most of us has struggled with. Paying back student loans. I have finished paying mine a few years ago and have freed myself from the devil, Sallie Mae but my husband struggles with them constantly. Their incompetence and bad customer service makes it so frustrating trying to get your loan paid without getting pissed off. A customer service rep my husband was speaking with, said in a very rude manner, how everyone wants to take a loan but no one wants to pay when it comes to pay. That is very irresponsible for someone representing a company that takes an abundance of money from people, to say, especially when my husband was on the phone with them because he wanted to make a payment. I personally paid back double plus, of what I borrowed, a lot of which was late payment fees which was due to errors on their behalf that I couldn't get reimbursed for. They use dirty tactics, purposely coordinating your auto-payment date a day or two after the due date, then charging you a late payment fee. It's like no matter what you do, there's always an error in their system and you end up paying for it. You asked to be reimbursed and being told they cannot do that, gets a bit frustrating especially when they harass you if you're one day late on a payment. Which is why you set up an auto-payment with them but that never works out either. I am so glad I'm done with them.
I want to make people aware of the Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012. There is a petition available for those who want to sign and help bring this act to becomming an actual law. For those who are affected by this, please take the time to visit the site and sign the petition. For those who aren't, still please take a quick look see. My husband and I both thank you for reading this long and drawn out post.

Sounds like a bit of a nightmare :( in the uk it gets taken out if your wages automatically when you're earning above the threshold for paying it back, along with tax and that, so no late payments! Although it is going to take me forever to pay it back lol (£37.5k and I pay £70 a month...hmm).
ReplyDeleteThat is a great system, wish it was like that here lol
